Hirano Aya visits Malaysia, Malaysian otaku go berserk

Be glad Hirano Aya didn't meet any Malaysian otaku when she was in Malaysia doing a photoshoot.

When news of her visit broke out, Malaysian otaku went into a frenzy, attempting to identify her hotel from her blog photos, interrogating hotel staff, planning how to acost her and raising funds in case people need to be bailed out. Some of the comments in the lowyat forums were downright scary:

“Somebody camp outside Nikko (suspected hotel) and give us pics lulz”
“Or atleast find one of her crew members and make him/her talk.”
“i dont mind being prisoned if i could grab her butt/whatever.”
“Who is Aya Hirano again?”
“She is your father.”
“do we need /as/funds to bail out whoever got jailed later?”
“faster faster , hunt her down and bite her meat !”

As the otaku organised search parties to meet their idol, someone even planned her supposed route she took thanks to Google Maps. The joke was on them however, as Aya had already returned to Japan after the news broke out. Epic Aya-roll I must say.

And what if she visited Singapore? Imagine her stuck in the Singapore Flyer for hours. Well, I guess the photo crew will have all the time in the world to get the shots they want though...

It's hard to think of an office-based comedy more different from The Office than this. Graham Linehan's absurdist sitcom feels nearer in spirit to The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin: off in a mad world of its own, yet uncomfortably familiar, even at its maddest. The IT Crowd even used to have its own "CJ"-type figure in Denholm Reynholm, the overbearing boss of Reynholm Industries played by Chris Morris. Although Reynholm jumped out of a high window in the last series, his playboy son Douglas (Matt Berry) shows every sign of carrying on the family name (plundering the pension fund, putting flakes of gold in the drinking water, etc) and more or less takes over tonight's very funny opening episode. That leaves our IT-department trio of geeky Moss, lazy Roy and uptight Jen slightly overshadowed. But the sweet scene where Moss and Roy try some role-play to help Moss deal with park bullies just about makes up for it.

RIP Kawai Eri

Japanese singer and songwriter Kawai Eri passed away on August 4th from terminal illness, which she had been fighting since early this year. She is probably most recognised for being the singing voice of Athena in the Aria series, along with being the singer of Madoromi no Rinne, the ED of Utawarerumono. She has also done the theme song lyrics for the Aria series, Bamboo Blade and Sketchbook ~full color'S~. I will always remember her for that particular scene in Aria the Animation, where her character Athena first sang "Barcarolle" to her stunned friends and drew applause from the tourists around them. That powerful, crystal clear voice made it a wonderful scene to watch.

Like Okazaki Ritsuko of Fruits Basket fame, Kawai Eri's passing will be a big loss to anime fans around the world. Farewell Kawai-san, and may you rest in peace.

Nanoha the Movie 1st coming this winter!

After the disappointment that is Nanoha StrikerS, this is definitely welcome news. And the fact that they call it "1st" means that there's more on the way!

Apparently it's going to be an alternate universe storyline where Nanoha and Fate are rivals (again). Bardiche gets a female voice this time along with a few tweaks together with Nanoha's barrier jacket as well as Raising Heart. All I can say is, I can't wait to see the penultimate clash of the titans yet again, in movie quality.
